We are committed to helping students and families through the college and graduate school admissions process. We provide superior guidance on college and graduate school applications, admissions, scholarships, athletic recruiting, and more. Our trained education consultants offer informed suggestions and ideas, helping each student to find the right college and supporting each applicant throughout the admissions process and beyond.

What we do…

We match each student with his or her own college admissions counselor in order to provide personal, customized service. This admissions consultant helps students organize and sort through the possible college choices and provides an impartial and experienced opinion on the options available. The consultant then helps students prepare and submit their applications, a time-intensive process that the admissions consultant can help streamline and support.

Who we serve…

Our admissions consultants work with students preparing for all forms of higher education from college applications to postdoctoral scholars embarking on a career in academia. We offer packages for students  beginning the college application process, graduating seniors who are waiting for admissions decisions, and college students seeking advanced degrees. Whatever application and admissions question you have, we can assist.

Why choose us…

Our experience runs deeper than simply having worked in college admissions. Our educational consultants have dozens of combined years of experience teaching and advising in elite universities around the world, including Stanford University, Princeton, MIT, UC Berkeley, UPenn and the University of Oxford. In addition to general admissions consulting, we offer specialized application help to international students, student athletes, and STEM-focused applications.

International Students

We enjoy working with clients from around the world and sharing our knowledge and expertise about American universities.

Capital College Consulting has the knowledge and skills international students need for US admissions. No matter where in the world you are, we will advise on all aspects of your US admissions journey, using Skype and email to interact with you and discuss your admissions goals. Some of our most popular services for international students include: identifying target universities, deciphering the Common Application, or brainstorming and editing personal statements and essays. We work with clients applying to undergraduate and graduate programs, and have special expertise in elite business school applications.

Our international student expert, Dr. Natalie Lundsteen, spent seven years as an advisor at the University of Oxford, assisting UK students applying to highly selective US institutions, as well as providing advice for scholarships, postdoctoral fellowships, internships, and jobs. She has provided admissions consulting for students and families in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa through her work in the London office of Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, and has extensive experience working in US higher education as well as universities abroad.

A few things you need to know as an International Student:

  • Colleges and universities are often referred to as ‘schools’ and even ‘grad schools’ at the Master’s and PhD level
  • Standardized test scores matter (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS)
  • It’s important to be able to explain why you want to study in the US – schools are looking for diversity
  • Show that you are EXCEPTIONAL in a subject area
  • Extracurricular activities can make the difference
  • The personal statement or essay must be written by YOU, in order to reflect your personality and characteristics. This may be a very different kind of writing to anything you have produced before.
  • Let admissions offices know if you do not need financial assistance. It can be difficult for international students to secure financial aid which can sometimes hurt your acceptance chances
  • Timelines HAVE to be met!

The number of international students studying in the US has increased by nearly 200,000 over the past ten years.

Though China sends the highest number of students to the U.S. from abroad to study (more than 194,000 students), Saudi Arabia actually experienced the highest percentage increase (50%) in number of students enrolling this year vs. last year.

Most selective colleges and universities in the US have an international student population of around 10-15% of the total student body. Acceptance rates for international students to top selective U.S. schools can be less than 5-10%.
